Lundestad has contributed to many other anthologies and his articles on contemporary international relations have been published in numerous journals and newspapers, including Diplomatic History, Cold War History, International Affairs, and International Herald Tribune.

Lundestad has also written books and articles in Norwegian on Norwegian history, particularly Norwegian foreign policy after 1945. He is frequently used as a commentator on Norwegian television and radio.

Lundestad has been awarded honorary degrees from Luther College and Augustana College. He is a member of the Royal Historical Society (UK) and the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters.
